Wind Energy Helps UK generate high amount of Electricity

Wind energy is proving to be a boon for UK’s electricity generation companies. It is contributing in a major way towards electricity generation according to the latest figures released by the Department of Environment and Climate Change.

The report has said that out of the total electricity that was produced in the past year from wind farms was 2.5% of the total electricity production. This is a 31% increase from the previous year and a 20% increase when compared to the growth of other renewable energy options.

This is good news for the nation and the wind energy industry. There is a lot of potential in this renewable source of energy and if used in a proper manner can give a lot of relief to the under pressure electricity generation process that too in a sustainable manner. By 2015 UK has to replace one third of its total electricity generation by green energy options. The contribution of wind energy is already good enough and if necessary steps are taken on time achieving the target will not be tough.

Switching to green energy options will also mean high employment opportunities, cleaner environment and cheaper energy. UK has the capacity of generating 49GW of electricity making use of wind energy. In the past UK has proven the capacity of its wind energy, in between 2008 and 2009 the nation’s electricity generation capacity increased from 5.6% to 6.7% out of which 50% was from wind power.
